New update to Google Messages app
Report

Google is working on improving the connection between Android and iPhone users. The latest beta version of the Google Messages app has revealed a new feature that allows Android users to send high-quality media to iPhone users via RCS (Rich Communication Services).

Currently, Google Messages compresses and significantly reduces the size of media files before sending them, which means that iPhone users often receive blurry or distorted images and videos, even through RCS. This is a major drawback, especially when trying to share important memories or documents, but now this issue will be addressed.

Google is currently addressing this issue in the latest beta release by giving users the option to send media in its original quality. Users will be prompted to choose between two options when sending media:

  • Chat-Optimized Quality: Faster sending with lower quality.
  • Original Quality: No change in quality, using more data.

Once a choice is made, this option will apply to all current and future chats.

This update is significant for two reasons:

Firstly, Android and iPhone users will finally be able to share high-quality media with each other seamlessly, without encountering blurry images or pixelated videos.

Secondly, it demonstrates Google’s commitment to improving the RCS experience. They are listening to user feedback and making necessary changes to make RCS a viable alternative to traditional SMS.

It’s also worth noting that this update is just one of many improvements Google has made to Google Messages in recent months. The company is working diligently to enhance the overall user experience, clearly aiming to make it the best messaging app on the market.
